The Square Church
Smyrna, GA

The Square Church has outgrown their existing buildings on the 2.2-acre parcel in Smyrna.  The site is nestled in between Campbell High School and the surrounding neighborhood on Powder Springs Rd.  The project will remove both of the smaller parsonage houses currently on the property while keeping the current sanctuary as a permanent building within the campus. The new 20,050-sf facility will be built along the entire east side of the property with an asphalt parking lot that will extend from the new construction and wrap around the back side of our present church neighboring Campbell High School. The building will house a 610-seat sanctuary, a 4,500-sf atrium, and a 7,200-sf children's ministry with 10 classrooms, offices, and a large multi-purpose room.  The site required a 250' long arch culvert over the existing stream and underground detention in order to fit the required parking lot.

The Atlanta facility was a ground-up development on a wooded lot adjacent to I-285 and an existing medical complex.  Site constraints included tight setbacks, significant grading challenges, shared access to adjacent parcel, and stormwater management requirements in a dense urban corridor. The design integrated an efficient patient flow with convenient ADA parking and ambulance access, while maintaining compliance with city health and development codes. Extensive collaboration with the client and design team helped deliver a layout that meets both clinical needs and community expectations.

This project transformed a former residential lot adjacent to an existing daycare into a specialized therapy center focused on mental health and creative expression for children. Site contraints included the adjacent 36" reclaim water line and a narrow corridor for sanitary sewer that crossed the reclaim water line and dodged multiple utility poles.  The site layout includes passive green space to maintain a calming and supportive environment for therapy services.
